For Part 2 visit: Basic Requirements For Air Hostess Recruitment: Part 2
General guidelines for air hostess. Part 3.
This series of articles provide basic, general guidelines.
Each airline has its own specific rules and regulations. Before you apply for a job, it is best to do some research on the airline company. Use a search to locate the airline’s website and read up on their policies.
Part 3 deals with the physical appearances of female as well as male candidates. Although this is written in the feminine gender, the same generally applies for the men too.
1) Tattoos.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So there should be nothing that can be seen that spoils this beauty. There shouldn’t be any visible tattoos that can be seen when normal clothes are worn. This applies to facial, neck, arm, leg, ankle tattoos. Many airlines use short sleeves and short skirt uniforms for women so no tattoos are to be seen on visible skin areas.
2) Body Piercings.
Generally, only women are allowed to have ear piercings. Only a single pair of ear rings should be worn, not multiple ear piercings in each ear.
If you have a hidden navel piercing or any other hidden body piercings, you cannot wear metal studs as they will violate the security screening against concealed metals.
There shouldn’t be any other facial piercings like on the nose, eyebrow, lips, tongue etc.
If you already have one of these visible facial piercings, please remove the studs and hope that the holes will heal up and there might not be any visible scars.
3) Body Jewelry.
No loud, kinky, extraordinary accessories.
It is safer to wear conservative ear studs and not long, dangling ear rings. You want to project a positive, serious, professional image of yourself at the interview and get that job.
The same goes for necklaces and other jewelry that are worn and can be seen.
4) Complexion.
You are required to have clear facial and body skin. Please ensure this before you apply for any interview. Pimples, acne, spots, freckles, and sometimes large facial moles are not acceptable.
5) Hair styles.
Generally, all airlines require cabin crew to have hair off the shoulder. Long hair should be secured back neatly into a bun type of coiffure. A hair net might even be required as cabin crew are required to serve food and it is for hygiene reasons that stray hairs should not fall into the passengers’ food items.
All hair styles are to be neat and well groomed.
On the overall, appearances must be neat, well groomed and immaculate.
